BNP senior joint secretary general Mirza Fakhrul has accused the government of snatching the title of the country’s best child to cover up its notoriety. He said to the government, “You will be insulted by this, nothing will happen to Ziaur Rahman.”

Mirza Fakhrul made the allegation at a human chain program of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon. The human chain was formed in protest of Ziaur Rahman’s decision to cancel the state title of ‘Bir Uttam’.

Rizvi quoted a statement from Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, a prominent freedom fighter, as saying, “70,000 freedom fighters fought in 1971. And Awami League is listing two and a half lakh freedom fighters. Because, their Awami League government is also listing their relatives, grandchildren who were not born in ’71.

Rizvi said, “I was shocked to see the report of Al-Jazeera. The state has been pardoned. The law minister says, I don’t know; The Home Minister says, I don’t know. How much mischief this government is doing in secret and in the dark, how many kinds of notoriety, how much injustice this government is introducing mafia system today. ‘

BNP health secretary Rafiqul Islam, joint publicity secretary Shamimur Rahman, DAB secretary general Abdus Salam, central leader Sirajul Islam, Zahirul Islam, Dhaka Metropolitan Juba Dal’s Golam Mawla Shahin and others also spoke at the human chain under the chairmanship of DAB president Harun Al Rashid.
